May Crowning at St. Paul Church

May 09, 2020- The Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia participate in the May Crowning of Mary on Saturday outside St. Paul Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Usually the ceremony involve the chosen students, but this year, because of COVID 19 virus, they are doing a virtual variation of the ceremony. The sisters have administered the school since 1965. May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held during the month of May.  At the close of the procession a statue of the Blessed Virgin is crowned with a crown of flowers honoring Mary as Òthe Queen of May.Ó There is usually a special honor attached to being chosen to crown the statue © Karen Pulfer Focht
